Sudanese Liquid Air ('SLA') was originally established in 1949 as L'Air Liquide-Soudan, a branch of the French company L'Air Liquide. In 1964 L'Air Liquide-Soudan was converted into a Sudanese company and re-named Sudanese Liquid Air Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of L'Air Liquide, Paris. In 1998 SLA became a subsidiary of the DAL Group.

SLA pioneered the use of liquid air in the industrial and medical sectors in Sudan. It manufactures industrial and medical gases (oxygen, acetylene, nitrogen, liquid nitrogen, nitrous oxide and compressed air), and also supplies other gases such as argon, ammonia, refrigerants, gas mixtures and special gases.

SLA also supplies materials and equipment for welding and metal-cutting as well as medical equipment and hospital piping systems. In 2006 a new specialist Welding Centre was opened in Khartoum with a showroom and facilities dedicated to the products of Air Liquide Welding and staffed by Sales Engineers able to offer technical support and advice.

Comprehensive national sales coverage is offered providing consultation, sales and distribution services throughout Sudan across a wide range of industry and business sectors and providing its customers with solutions to problems wherever they are located.
