Inspired by the DAL Food brand’s increasing focus on tradition, there are elements of traditional Sudanese heritage in the cafeteria’s decorative objects and artwork. The space has a colorful, inviting atmosphere deliberately meant to feel like a place outside of the office.
Providing healthy, filling meals has always been a goal of the cafeterias at DAL. Inside, employees are served full meals, from Sudanese dishes to international items. Outside, Halima, the tea lady, is available to provide hot drinks for employees as they sit on traditional banabir.
Although the space was originally built to be a cafeteria in the 1970’s, it had been empty for some time since then. After being outfitted with repurposed and recycled materials, the Central Kitchen, Catering Service Group and HR formally opened the cafeteria on 10 Feb 2016. It serves breakfast from 9:30am-11:30am, and dinner from 9:30pm-11:30pm – all employees are welcome.
